COUNCILS

ONE BODY, MANY GIFTS, ONE MISSION.

The laity play a vital role in guiding our parishes and Area Catholic Community. Through councils and committees, they offer input on key decisions - always grounded in the mission of Jesus Christ and the Church.

COUNCIL DESCRIPTIONS

Parish Leadership Team (PLT)

The Leadership Team was formed to take on the biggest ideas involving all six parishes. They are a great help to the pastor in guiding our ACC. The purpose of our team is threefold:

1. To be the primary body of the faithful for the pastor to consult for pastoral direction within the Area Catholic Community (ACC).
2. To study, pray, listen, and act upon the inspirations of the Holy Spirit as a way to further the mission of Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church in each parish and in the ACC.
3. To work together for the greatest pastoral good of each parish and of the ACC.

Finance Council

There is one Finance Council for each parish. The council assists the pastor with the responsible oversight of each parish’s temporal goods. They review and approve the annual parish budget and advise the pastor in financial matters. They ensure the parish remains current with its obligations to the parish employees, parish vendors, and diocesan organizations. In addition, they weigh in on major repairs or maintenance issues and occasionally get involved with the selling or buying of any property.

Trustee

Trustees belong to the Corporate Board along with the Bishop, Vicar General, and Pastor for a total of 5 members. The board has real authority in helping the pastor govern the temporal goods of each parish. Trustees play an important role in managing budgets, signing checks in the absence of the pastor, and must vote on any transaction exceeding $20,000 not included in the annual budget. In addition they sit on the Parish Finance Council. Once in a while, all 12 trustees from the 6 parishes will have a meeting. Among other things, they will discuss how to share various resources such as time, personnel, and expenses in a fair way. Rest assured, parishes are not combining bank accounts or anything like that.
